Recognized as a technical expert, lead a cross-functional team of materials, biomedical, and chemical engineers to develop state-of-the art new or improved medical devices and container systems. The Sr. Principal Materials Engineer will employ fundamental materials and engineering principles to resolve difficult problems, from completion to final design with team input.
Without appreciable direction, responsible for directing and coordinating all activities necessary to complete a major materials engineering project or several small projects.
Provide technical supervision to lower level materials engineers and other technical personnel, and may be responsible for the administrative duties of a small work group, although engineering work performed is more important than the supervision aspect.
Generate and leverage existing and new intellectual property for new therapy and/or clinical use.
Communicates key information and recommendations to influence technical decisions and strategy.
Define new and existing materials engineering design requirements and develop specifications in accordance with manufacturing , marketing, and customer expectations and requirements.
Identify and analyze design problems to achieve optimal solutions that satisfy cost and technical requirements using both internal and external technical resources. Formulate new, innovative approaches to solve technical problems on a consistent basis.
Create and communicate project plans, tasks and deliverables and manage time to meet project deadlines. This includes reporting pertinent information at key milestones though clear, concise oral and written communications
Champions process improvements that impact the business
Engage in personal and continuing program of learning in order to broaden knowledge in materials engineering and to gain knowledge in new fields of general engineering in order to improve the individual effectiveness and to avoid technical obsolescence.
A minimum of 8-13 years experience with B.S. degree, or 6-11 years with M.S degree, or 3-8 years with PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
Possess expertise in two or more of the following technical areas:
Polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer rheology, polymer adhesion, polymer/rubber formulation&technology, polymer coating, polymer extrusion/molding, or polymer characterization.Extensive experience utilizing material characterization tools (i.e. DSC, microscope, rheology, etc.) to Solve materials engineering problems with minimal assistance.
Proven ability to solve design, engineering problems with minimal assistance.
Completely proficient in materials implications for medical device design and development processes.
Demonstrated ability to decompose complex problems into task lists.
Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership for materials engineering projects with substantial complexity and scope.
Demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied functions (i.e manufacturing, Quality, regulatory, etc.)
Proven communication skills and ability to perform within a cross-functional team environment.
Proven track record of new product ideas, patents, and publications.
Proven track record demonstrated success in delivering results on multiple technical challenges.
Ability to drive change initiatives.
